Whistler Longboard Festival 2013: Downhill Skateboarding

Posted by: Alice Tunnell 6 years, 10 months ago

Whistler certainly has a lot of hills just made for excellent Longboarding. And you thought Whistler was just for skiing and snowboarding. The World Longboard Festival was held in Whistler on July 4th-7th.

The WCSS  raffled off top quality skate gear. Some lucky winners had the chance to win big and support a good cause.

The WCSS Summer Camp Fund is designed to help send financially restricted children/youth to summer camp. This program originated in 2011 from a donation given to WCSS by The Troutsmen International Club of Leisure and The Whistler Outdoor Volleyball Association. The idea was to provide an opportunity for children to attend a summer camp of their choice. Since 2011, local youth have participated in a variety of camps including: Sailing camp, Gymnastics, Tennis camp, Easter Seals, Evans Lake camp and Biking camp. WCSS has given 21 families the opportunity to send their children to camp. They look forward to working with the Whistler Longboard Festival to create more opportunities for kids to participate!

The 2013 World Longboard Festival took it up a notch this year with the debut of their Big Air and Freestyle Jam - which took place throughout the day on July 5th at Olympic Plaza and on July 6th at Mountain Square.

On July 5th The Big Air expo featured a huge kicker and a massive Acrobag airbag to land on, giving some of the Festival’s world class skaters the chance to safely practice their gnarliest tricks. For years Acrobag has provided skaters, mountain bikers, skiers, and snowboards a safe tool for learning new tricks. Acrobag was stoked to be partnering with this rider owned and operated company to further their goal of reducing injuries while advancing athletic progression. Top skaters showcased the best of their skills.
